Book Written and Published by Sharrell Howard (2017)

Our current educational programs are in need of a few upgrades. There is a lack of diversity of knowledge educators have in reference to how their curriculums are intertwined into many different careers, the lack of career relevancy in many of the core classes and some of the CTE classes, the lack of industry presence in core classes, and some CTE classes, and the fact that industry professionals are not aware of our student's ability.

This book is a guide to help educators and professionals design innovative ways to work together to enhance the classroom experience. This book brings career relevancy into all courses via enhanced classrooms and cross-curricular project-based learning experiences. Encouraging industry professionals to take an active role in the classroom will enhance the content in courses from an industry perspective, encourage industries to support schools financially through sponsorships, and allow industry partners to see student’s capability in order to lay the groundwork for future internships.

The implementation of programs designed by Sharrell at the two high schools she served as Academy Director achieved Distinguished and Model status from NAF (National Academy Foundation). Her most notable achievement was receiving the 2015 Lowe’s Pride Award, “STEAM Innovative Teacher of the Year.” She graced the cover of Charlotte’s Pride Magazine in 2015 and was featured in the cover story “Women in STEM.” With over 20 years in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry along with over 10 years in education, her experiences and achievements birthed the publishing of “The Professional Classroom Playbook” and the launch of The STETRIS Group in 2017. She has a passion for STEM and Art; through this dynamic duo, she can envision, create, and design in a way that brings dreams to life, which has.

Sharrell continues to have a heart for children by serving the community through various non-profit organizations including her church Destiny Church, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and The Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. Sharrell served as the Board Chair for the new charter school Great Opportunities and Boundless Innovations for Girls helping to bring what was once a vision to reality. This will be the first all-girls, STEM-focused, K-8 school in the Charlotte area. Sharrell was instrumental in the design of this school and its approval by the State of North Carolina.  Sharrell also serves on the Board of Directors for Direct Employers Institute, a nonprofit organization that enables middle and high school students to explore STEM careers with Indiana employers.

Sharrell serves in ministry alongside her husband, Rev. Steven Howard, who is the Senior Pastor of Destiny Church. They have been married for almost 20 years and have three children Samuel, Sydney, and Silas. They enjoy traveling and spending time together as a family especially when there are fun STEM projects to do or board games to be played. Sharrell believes passion and optimism are the two critical components of creative problem-solving and that each person has a unique calling and gifting that has the power to change lives. There is one thing that everyone who knows her will say, “She is never short on ideas.”

Innovation is the key to advancement; it’s not the big changes; it’s small changes and sustainable consistency that will make the biggest difference.
